Fund raising

Old enough to know better – young enough to still do it!

As the saying goes “Growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional” and in my case that is so very true.

I’ll be 50 in just a few weeks

I can hardly believe it’s been a year since I started this blog and set my self the task of completing 50 challenges by the time I’m 50.  And while I’ve still got to update a few of these challenges I can tell you now that I haven’t managed to complete them all

I should hang my head in shame.  No – not me.  I’m never one to give up.

Because while I’m a year older but I’m not any no wiser

I’m going to keep going.  Keep going until I complete them all.  And top of the list is still to raise £5,ooo for charity.

So instead of burying my head in the sand and pretending it’s not happening I’m going to embrace turning 50 by celebrating my birthday with a combined birthday party and charity fundraiser in support of the Charlie Cookson Foundation.

Everyone is invited – family, friends, neighbours, Charlie Cookson supporters.

Help me celebrate getting older

Help me celebrate getting older

As well as the usual party essentials like food, drink and entertainment there’ll also be raffles, tombola’s and a charity auction.

So come along and join in the fun because as Pablo Picasso once said

It takes a long time to become young

or in other words

Smile while you still have your own teeth

Lose to win – Week 24

A day late posting but not a day late getting weighed – I just didn’t have the time to share yesterday as what was a busy weekend continued on to be a busy week – though of course the weekend was more about having fun rather than the work of yesterday.

If I’m honest the whole of last week was pretty busy and despite my promise to get back on track I found myself eating a Chinese takeaway on Wednesday – but I have to say it was worth it.

Then on Saturday I went to the Durham Miners Gala – if you’ve never been I’d definitely recommend it – it’s not all about politics but about communities coming together in a friendly and fun atmosphere.  So of course there was a few drinks and some pretty unhealthy, although very delicious, food involved.

So when I got weighed yesterday morning I  wasn’t sure what to expect.  And the result is………..

2lb lost 7 to go

2lb lost 7 to go

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised as I lost 2lb.  That’s another £2 for the Charlie Cookson Foundation but I’ve still got half a stone, or 7lb, to lose in just 3 and half weeks if I’m to reach my target of losing 2 stone by my birthday.

Wish me luck – I think I’m going to need it………………………..

If you’re impressed with my success you can add to my £’s for pounds at www.justgiving.com/5iftyby5ifty or to donate by phone text FIFB50 £1 to 70070

Lose to win – week 23

After last weeks disaster I started this week determined to stick to my diet and get back on track.  And I didn’t do too bad, at least most of the time I didn’t.  It was a bit of a tough week so by Saturday I really felt like I needed a bit of a treat.

Now the town where I live, South Shields, is home to one of the best Fish and Chip restaurants in the UK.  And don’t take my word for it. Ask Patrick Stewart, David Miliband, Alison Steadman, David Walliams, Tony Blair or even Sting because they’re just a few of the celebrities who’ve enjoy the delights served up by Colmans.

So on a rainy day, when you want to watch the summer parade without getting wet, it really is the perfect place to eat.  So off we went.  Me, my youngest son and my Grandson.  We got a table in the window and watched the parade go by.

Parade

And while I’m not a big fan of fish I do love fresh cooked chips and count myself as a bit of  a connoisseur when it comes to chicken chicken nuggets which in this case are made with big chunks of chicken.

Colmans

So when I got weighed this morning I was hoping I would have lost some weight but wasn’t really convinced I had.  And the result is…………….

12st 6

A brilliant 4 pound. Which, as I followed my chips with a large ice cream, I am more than happy with.  And of course that means another £4 to the Charlie Cookson Foundation.

If you’re impressed with my success you can add to my £’s for pounds at www.justgiving.com/5iftyby5ifty or to donate by phone text FIFB50 £1 to 70070
