Lose to win – Week 17

I’ve tried to be good this week.  Unfortunately I haven’t always succeeded.

For example I bought some chocolate flavour cereal bars to have for breakfast.  They’re really nice and at only 99 calories perfect for my calorie controlled diet – or so you would think.

Not in my case because I somehow managed to eat the whole box (there’s 4 in a box) in less than an hour – turns out the chocolate rush was just too much for me – so I won’t be buying them again.

Then I attended the UNISON Northern Region Disabled Members Policy Weekend in Durham which meant an overnight stay in a hotel.  I intended to be good and go swimming but I forgot my swimming costume.  And the Prosecco and cake were just too tempting – it was someone’s birthday so it would be rude not to.

But the rest of the time I haven’t been too bad.  So this morning I could only hope the scales wouldn’t be too unkind.

And the result is………….

12st 7

I’ve lost 1 pound.  I’m heading in the right direction.  But only just so I need to be much better this week and not take anything for granted.  After all a couple of weeks ago it looked like I might hit my target by June but that’s now looking increasingly unlikely.

But at least it’s another £1 for the Charlie Cookson Foundation.  And with no special occasions expected this week hopefully the results will start to improve again.

Lose to win – Week 16

Diet wise it hasn’t been a good week.  After gaining 1 pound last week I found it really difficult to get back on track.

I felt frustrated at work and irritable at home and as is often the case I ate lots of the wrong things.  Then of course there was the weekend to cope with.

I was in Stevenage for a UNISON meeting all weekend.  And while Stevenage isn’t really my favourite place it was a chance to catch up with some of my favourite people.  But of course this involved far too much food as well as a good few glasses (or maybe I should say bottles) of prosecco.

The hotel we stay in is always really friendly but the food can sometimes be a bit hit and miss.  But this weekend it was fantastic.  So with full cooked breakfast, two course lunches and three course dinners including this fabulous Ganache served with Bailey’s custard

Ganache

I was fairly sure that the scales weren’t going to be kind to me when I got weighed this morning. And the result is…..

12st 8lb 2

I was right.  It wasn’t good.  I’ve gained three pound! My highest weight gain week since I trying to lose weight.

What I really don’t understand is why it takes weeks or maybe even months to lose three pound but it only takes a couple of bad days to put the same amount on.

But I’m not disheartened.  This might be the most I’ve ever put on in one week but it does mean £6 for the Charlie Cookson Foundation so at least a really good cause is going to benefit from my failure.

Lose to win – Week 15

It’s been an up and down week diet wise

After last week’s weight loss I started off really positive and upbeat – convinced I would lose much more this week.

On Wednesday I went to a funeral where tapas was served.  And me being me I went for the unhealthy option – chorizo.

This also led to a bit of a chocolate craving – when I say a bit of I mean a massive chocolate craving.  So I went home and demolished a bar of Teasers chocolate.  And I don’t mean a small bar I mean a huge bar.

They call it a share bar - but not in my world

By Thursday I was back in controls – well sort of – I didn’t have more chocolate but couldn’t resist a piece of cake at work.

Friday was much easier then Saturday arrived.  And this week that meant a night out with the lovely Joanne Weightman

Prosecco time

And anyone who knows me will know that doesn’t just mean a couple of bottles of prosecco but also some rhubarb and ginger gin – delicious but loaded with calories – not good for the diet.

But yesterday the sun was shining and I was ready to get back on track.  After spending the morning listening to former Foreign Secretary David Miliband talking about the EU referendum

I spent the afternoon in the garden and ate really healthily.  But I should have known it wouldn’t last.  And sure enough at about 8 o’clock I was feeling really peckish and decided to make myself an omelette.  Now a two egg omelette is only 140 calories (I use spray oil) so that wouldn’t be too bad.  Except I made a 4 egg omelette.  And then I added some cheese, the lower fat kind, but cheese non the less.  Oh and then I decided a nice dollop of chilli mayo would make it even better.  So that was yesterday’s diet ruined as well.

So after a week of up’s and down’s I wasn’t sure whether my weight would go up or down.   And the result is……….

Up or down? It had to be up this week

Up or down? It had to be up this week

Of course it went up – so that’s a down.  But only by 1 pound – so that’s an up.  It’s a set back – so another down.  But it means £2 instead of £1 for the Charlie Cookson Foundation – and that is the best up of them all
