Who will Trek for Charlie?

As regular readers know I am trying to raise £5,000 for the Charlie Cookson Foundation.  This is an amazing charity ran by Charlie’s fantastic parents, family and friends.

I do my best to take part in as many of their activities as possible to raise funds and awareness of the cause but now I’m looking for someone to help me out.

On 13 March the Charlie Cookson Foundation will be holding there third annual Trekking for Charlie event.  Unfortunately because of me MS this is one I won’t be able to take part in.  I can’t walk very far and am unable to use public transport so I’d would have to do it in my car.  And I doubt anyone would sponsor me to drive from Sunderland to Newcastle.

Will anyone Trek for Charlie in my name - I really hope so

Will you Trek for Charlie for me?

So I’m looking for a volunteer to take Trek for Charlie for me.  The trek starts at the Stadium of Light and finishes at St James Park.  There will be loads of people taking part and I’m sure it will be a great atmosphere.

I’ll help with all the preparation work by sorting the paperwork and helping to get sponsors.  I’ll even provide drinks and snacks for the trek.  You can find out more about the event here

If you’ll Trek for Charlie in my name leave a message, email me or contact me on Facebook or Twitter

Winners lose – week 2

After last weeks amazing success of losing 5 pound the thought of another weigh-in this morning was terrifying.  I knew there was no way I could do that again.  After all everyone knows that weight loss in the first week is almost all water.  And to top it off I had been a bit naughty at a buffet on Thursday.

My aim is to lose 1 or 2 pounds a week.  As I headed towards the bathroom this morning I’d decided that if my weight had stayed the same it would be ok and if I’d managed to lose 1 pound I would be happy.  And whatever happens at least the Charlie Cookson Foundation would be winners with my £ for pound plan.  I was actually quite expecting to be paying out £2 for each pound I had put on.  But the scales said……….

Another 3 pound lost and another £3 for charity

Another 3 pound lost and another £3 for charity

I’ve lost another 3 pound. That’s a total of 8 pound in just two weeks or in other words over half a stone in a fortnight. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I wouldn’t have believed it.  And I have to say I already feel so much better.  At this rate I could lose a stone in a month and reach  my target weigh below my birthday.

And for anyone out there trying to lose weight my advice is just go for it because if I can do it anyone can.

If you’re impressed with my success you can add to my £’s for pounds at www.justgiving.com/5iftyby5ifty

£’s for Pounds

A few days ago, while looking for some family photos for my brother, I found this photo.  Yes, I know I don’t look a lot like this now but it got me thinking.

Sanibel Island June 1992

Sanibel Island June 1992

I wasn’t in the first flushes of youth.  I was 25, nearly 26, and a single parent with a demanding and stressful job.  But I was thin, fairly pretty (or so I’m told) and had the world at my feet.

I decided this was the perfect photo to inspire me to lose weight – so I stuck it to my desk. I’ve also put a really unflattering fat one on the fridge door but after sharing my weight there was no way I was posting that on here

Now, I’m pretty realistic.  I’m never going look like I did when I was 25.  And if I’m honest I wouldn’t want to be that thin now.  After all at nearly 50 it’s a fine balance between fat and wrinkles.  But I did think it would be a good motivational tool.

Then I started thinking about what else would motivate me.  And that’s when I came up with £’s for Pounds (I might even create a # on Twitter – if I can figure out how).  And here’s how it works:

For every pound I lose I will donate £1 to the Charlie Cookson Foundation.  And I’m asking everyone else to support me by doing the same if you think I’ve done well one week.  I know money is tight so I don’t expect anyone to do it every week, but, if once in a while, you’ve got a £ or 2 to spare (I doubt I’ll lose more than that in a week) then please do donate at www.justgiving.com/5iftyby5ifty

Oh and I nearly forgot.  Because I don’t want the Charlie Cookson Foundation to lose out if I don’t lose weight – I will donate £2 for every pound I gain.  So keep an eye out tomorrow for my first weigh-in to see how much I’ve lost (or not) and how much I’ll be giving to charity.
